Professor Carel Weight CH, CBE, RA

Carel Weight (10 September 1908 - 13 August 1997) gave invaluable advice on the formation of the society in 1961. He had been appointed Professor of Painting at the Royal College of Art in 1957,contributed regularly to the Royal Academy and became an RA himself in 1965. He was a figurative painter and superb portraitist, with a particular sensitivity to spectral apparitions. Two of his obituaries can be found in the FCSA's 1990's/Millennium scrapbook: one from the Times of Thursday August 14 1997 and another one, unattributed but in your webmaster's view more interesting, probably from the Daily Telegraph of about the same date.
